E K Arthnur, jailed on grand larceny charges, escaped Thursday evening as jailor Stallup left a corridor door ajar for coal duty. Arthur slipped from the bath area, found a ladder, and vanished beyond the yard while officers traced the escape. He previously ran a barber shop near the Star theatre and faced a South Carolina brass theft case worth 100 dollars. authorities sought him with requisition papers from Columbia, D C. The district court discharged its jury. E C White and Clinsey pled guilty to related offenses and received one year sentences.
