Fort Cobb Route 4 reports on visits and travels of Miss Foster to Miss Erwin and W. 8. Erwin to Anadarko. Dr. Warner to Carnegie, Frank Butler heading to his Apache claim, and Rev. Stanley and Rev. Thomas preaching at local schoolhouses. Mrs. Cox of Oney dies, and Margaret Norman and John Wharton wed. Community gatherings include a Cheatham box supper and multiple family visits.
Robt L Owen, born Lynchburg Virginia, educated at Washington and Lee, earned MA and gold medal for debating. He served as teacher at Cherokee Orphan Asylum, secretary of the Cherokee Nation Board of Education, practiced law, led banks in Indian Territory, and helped pass citizenship for Indians. He argued Eastern Cherokee case before the Supreme Court, praised by Chief Justice Nott and Senator Clapp. He contributed to the 1901 citizenship act and its signature by McKinley.
Friday will be warm and mild. Noted in Indian Territory is Mr Owen a long time Washington contact and Muskogee businessman. He has active Democratic ties, travels widely, and is regarded as a strong public speaker and trusted leader.
In Anadarko Route 4 Mrs Sims visits Snyder relatives while nearby farmers split crops with corn planting and cotton picking. The McNabb family, long ill, show signs of recovery as Mr Ellis, new to the neighborhood from Texas, joins the community.
E. B. Wilcox arrived back this morning after a brief business trip to Oklahoma City.
A batch of real estate transfers shows multiple conveyances between residents and local owners. Properties include parcels in Gracemont Binger Anadarko Fort Cobb and Fort Cobb areas with values ranging from 100 to 31500 dollars. Names include Rassoh Epton Thompson Barr Elkin Van Valkenburg Rochelle and Brummett.
At the depot a woman attempting to board the north bound Rock Island train was knocked between the car and platform as the train moved forward. A bystander helped her free, preventing serious injury.
Indian Agent J. P. Blackman and clerks, who had been at Ft Bill paying Indians, returned to the city today. The payment was made to the Comanches and about $50,000 disbursed.
In a letter from Mise Overstreet of Emporia to her father R M Overstreet she recalls a 75 mile drive from Eikend to Arapaho with Indian tepeca and wild tribes. She describes crossing a raging Canadian River toll bridge and reports attending a teachers institute and a stone church dedication in Bridgeport Ohio with granite from an Oklahoma quarry.
Deputy Marshal J. W. Morris and deputies arrested John Hart at the Anadarko depot Tuesday night for participating in the Rusk Oklahoma post office robbery on February 8. Hart was identified by the Rusk postmaster. the Enid post office inspector will bring witnesses to identify him. Hart was arraigned before U S Commissioner R K Robinson and jailed on default bond. He is believed linked to an organized gang of safe blowers active in Oklahoma for six months, with further arrests planned. A Chickasha suspect is under surveillance, and two notices of auto blowers’ work appear in today’s Oklahoma newspaper.
