Elizabeth Scholl of Osceola Wisconsin was pronounced dead after a brain fever illness. Buried for several days her mother insisted on opening the casket at home and life was found in the still body. She was revived and is expected to recover.
Local jewelry shops plan daily 8 PM closing hours starting June 15 1940. Including George F Sutter J B Mitchell Frank Ward and A O U Evans as participating stores in Lofelock area.
The Turtle Tea at the Holding residence this afternoon drew a large crowd. J. T. Stephens of Alfalfa, Democratic candidate for Registery of Deeds, spent a few hours in Anadarko Tuesday and reported a very satisfactory campaign so far.
The Chautauqua Auditorium nears completion and should be ready by the opening on June 29. The project represents an outlay of about $2,000 to citizens. Paving near the park entrance is finished improving the park’s appearance. Hw. J. T. Stephens of Swan Lake Township, a candidate for something like deeds, spent the day in Aundarko. He is examining plans carefully.
Homer Pendarvis and Jim Harris, both colored, were arraigned Wednesday in County Court on charges of burglary. Pendarvis posted bond for June 27 appearance. Harris could not bond and was remanded.
Jesse Kemp was arraigned in court Tuesday morning charged with theft of property belonging to the Dubinsky stow people. His hearing was set for Thursday at otelock with bond of 700, and in default he was committed to jail.
Early Tuesday morning a blaze engulfed the Degger building and spread rapidly along Main Street Cement destroying Surbeck’s restaurant and several properties including those owned by T. B. McCresdy Ed Powell John D. Pugh Swinney Surbeck H. A. Bishop and Stackhouse. Estimated losses exceed insured amounts with John D. Pugh among the heaviest losers and a call for rebuilding in brick follows.
On June 14 Riverside Government School will observe a military style Flag Day. At 6 45 PM the flag will be lowered and martial music played. Citizens of Ana darko are invited to witness the ceremony at Skaggs Grocery district as part of weekly BOE notices.

At a Monday Anadarko gathering, Dr. Campbell was chosen chairman of the Republican County Central Committee with Ralph Cleveland as secretary. The group endorsed Uncle Dick T. Morgan for Congress, signaling support for Morgan and Campbell and pledging to campaign for the party.
