Illinois Speaker Cannon's attendance stirs Tulsa convention politics as Hamon negotiates with Frantz ally. Cannon may oppose a state ticket and push a new enabling act, threatening a Democratic gain. Oklahoma County delegates hold power, with Frantz followers split among Guthrie and City factions. Ed Saught and Pliny L. Soper emerge as potential Indian Territory picks.
Three thousand delegates from Oklahoma and Indian Territory will gather at Shawnee August 20 22 to greet and hear Marion Lawrence the greatest Sunday school worker in the world. Many other speakers of note will also take part and the nine delegates from Oklahoma to the World's Convention at Rome Italy will tell of their trip and that great meeting. The Rock Island and Santa Fe roads have granted a rate of one fare plus fifty cents round trip from all points in Oklahoma and Indian Territory to Shawnee. Be sure to call on your depot agent ahead of time and find out if he has his instructions. Anyone may go as a delegate who will send a stamp for a delegates reserved seat credential to the general secretary William Rogers 12844 West Main street Oklahoma City. The readers of this paper are especially invited to meet Marion Lawrence at Shawnee.
An ice cream social will be hosted by the Buena Vista Sunday school on Saturday July 27 located three miles east and four miles south of Anadarko. Attendees will be treated to a literary program and graphophone melodies, with ice cream and cake served. All readers are invited to attend and assured of a good time by the committee.
Water consumers using water after the hour specified in the ordinance will be cut off. The above will be enforced. Signed by J. C. Stelaner mayor in 1562.
East Broadway honored Mildred McKnight’s fourth birthday with games ice cream doughnuts and chips served on napkins. Guests included Elnore Kunkel Feral McInturk Eva Ferguson Gladys Ogle Clara Lindley and boys Murray Kunkell Horace Marion and Forrest Heskett Hugh Boyd.
Those who failed or could not attend the afternoon talk at the Court House should come tonight at 8 o clock. Issues of interest will be discussed. all are invited and ladies are especially invited.
Washington July 26 The Interstate Commerce Commission under Commissioner Prouty finds Oklahoma has a valid complaint against the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific and other interstate lines over wheat and corn rates from Oklahoma to Galveston Texas for export. The commission after a hearing rules the rates unreasonable and orders reductions.
A democratic state campaign committee meeting is called at South McAlister on August 5 to open the campaign and determine speaking dates for candidates. Invitations have been sent from state headquarters to prominent democratic workers across the two territories to attend the South McAlister meeting.
Real estate transfers listed include Samuel Sidebotham to Warren Carter Lot 5 Block 1f Anadarko con 80 and several other conveyances. Transactions show neighbors, lots, blocks, sections, and cash considerations, with various grantors and grantees named and properties described by section township and range. The colored veterans of North Ft Cobb organize an independent club with a ship of thirty five. Its President E Royce and Secretary Dan Cook lead efforts. The group aims to promote veteran welfare and community involvement in local events.
Alice Vincent, once a cigar girl at a Grand Avenue hotel, wed Mack Levy a traveling salesman. After a week, she seeks work at the National hotel cigar counter in Leavenworth. Police across several cities seek Levy. D S Levy was arrested here but proved not to be the forger, an innocent man.
Guthrie Okla July 26 The Logan county Republicans have named district committees for three legislative districts. First district Frank Wolf of Crecent and C Curless of Cedar. Second district Dr E G Sharpe and A M Brodes both of Guthrie. Third district Fred Madden of Guthrie township and J W Taylor of Guthrie. Taylor is a negro.
The American Midland Railroad Company based in Guthrie was chartered July 22 to build a 2100 mile line, 450 miles in Oklahoma, from Langdon North Carolina to near Galveston Texas with branches to Coal Gate Indian Territory and to Poteau I T. Capital stock is 60 million dollars. Directors include A C Guss B F Hegler Jr C B Havighorst Henry Oppenheimer Frank Jerome Hoyle Meyer Oppenheimer Charles F Senkowski and Lamar Lyndon of New York City.
Kansas City July 26 The state board of railroad commissioners received letters from Union Pacific and Atchison Topeka Santa Fe declining to implement emergency two cent passenger fares in Kansas while litigation over the two cent fare laws in Missouri and neighboring states continues. The railroads refused to apply the reduced rate even as Missouri Nebraska and Iowa observe it.
The Eastern Oklahoma Independent Cotton Ginners Association met in Guthrie with 40 gins represented to discuss this fall's cotton crop handling. A pretest opposed Japanese labor for chopping and picking cotton, a proposal raised recently by M. Chuman of Omaha labor and immigration labor.
Sunday outlook for Washington Oklahoma and Indian Territory calls for fair skies and rising temperatures. Dry conditions prevail with gradual warming across the region as a high pressure builds. Expect light winds and comfortable air near the coast and inland areas.
Hon L L Fulton of Oklahoma City addressed a large audience this afternoon with support from Hon L K Taylor. They will speak again tonight in the district court room as Hon B M Hayes of Chickasha arrives to discuss the constitution and its making.
Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Gillette entertained about fifteen guests at their Wesr Oklahoma Avenue home last evening. Honored guests included P. B. Gillette of Kingfisher, a Gillette brother, and Mea dames Libby and Engle of El Teno, daughters of the hosts. Music featured the evening followed by ice cream and cake.
Last evening at club rooms the local Eagles of this city held an impromptu dance for students attending the summer normal. About twenty couples attended and reported a most enjoyable evening. Frappe was served and music provided by the Kroning orchestra.
Teddy Bear C W Brackman jeweler at City Drug Store decorates a wine bottle with a toy bear among 140 silver pieces. The display invites the public to guess the number of dots on a paper window card, with each guess tied to buying a silver piece.
The Presbyterian Church will observe Holy Communion at the morning service. The evening sermon topic is The Golden Calf. Christian Endeavor meeting at 7 o'clock led by Pastor Edward B. Tess.
