Heir presumptive to the Japanese throne weds a girl educated in the United States. Toombs and Daily paid defense fund for W. D. Shepherd. Bankruptcy probe shows source of coin spent for alleged slayer of his millionaire ward.
A bankruptcy referee in Chicago found that Roy C Toombs and his defunct brokerage Toombs & Daily financed the defense of William Darling Shepherd in the murder case of ward William Nelson McClintock. Daily testified the firm advanced about $50,000, to be repaid with the McClintock estate valued at $2,000,000. Shepherd later inherited virtually the entire estate under a recently drawn will.

Jacqueline Logan film actress underwent an appendicitis operation at Hollywood hospital. She was reported in satisfactory condition, after becoming critically ill following a late night dinner at her home.
High winds fanned forest fires on the Couer d Alene and St Joe national forests in northern Idaho. Crews were increased as blazes jumped lines and spread toward new areas. Three hundred twenty two firefighters battled flames over more than 6500 acres in slate creek and pacer creek regions.
The body of a man about 35 presumed to be A C Brennan of Butte was found by section hands along the Northern Pacific near Baker Creek two and a half miles east of Manhattan. Death seemed recent with head wounds possibly from a fall from a moving train. Identification aided by Moose lodge dues card and a shipment receipt from Chicago to Butte. The body was taken for further investigation.
Three members of Lorain Ohio in the dry squad Frank Klady Walter Knitter and Louis Cicco were bound for the county grand jury after a shooting incident near Elyria Miss Betty Heywood 22 was wounded in the neck and taken to a hospital Her condition was described as serious but improving Officials said the officers fired at a private car they tried to stop believing it might be hold up men Charles Edwards drove the car and was not charged Klady was suspended and the other two retired pending the case under civil service rules.
Arch ie Much , a mill worker known as Moock, is charged with killing Mrs Catherine Clark in Spokane. He claims James Murphy a mythical figure killed the woman, noting letters signed Murphy and a promised marriage. Officers recovered letters and money Much says belonged to Clark in his yard. He says Murphy disappeared to avoid justice.
Senator Joe Robinson started a three day drive for Missouri 18 electoral votes and launched a major West campaign tour. He stressed Gov. Smith s record on legislation for women and children, arguing it surpassed that of any living statesman.
Two men were killed and two injured when the Regal Oil and Refining Company building in Calgary Alberta exploded today. The deceased are Geoffrey Hollin and Alex Antoniuk the plant foreman. Charles Siefert company secretary and A. W. Lancaster an office clerk were injured.
Yasuhito Prince Chichibu marries Setsuko Matsudaira at the Kashikodokoro, the sun goddess shrine in the imperial palace. Matsudaira is adopted to qualify as his bride, a historic match between branches of noble houses in Japan. The ceremony links the imperial line to feudal legacy dating to Tokugawa Shogun Hideyoshi’s era.
Philadelphia DA John Monaghan questioned a high police official whose bank deposits greatly exceeded his salary. Since March 1926 the official deposited over $36,000 while his salary stood at $2,700 annually, rising slightly to $2,809 at the start of the year.
Mrs. Miller testified before a police judge and officials that she and Percy Eberlee planned the alibi while her husband Roy Ingram allegedly planted the confession. She said Eberlee and she lived together in a Santa Cruz cottage when the Sept. robbery occurred, and the cottage owner backs her story. Authorities will seek a new trial for Eberlee.
Harold Hendrickson, an Allen A Hosiery employee, was tarred by gunmen as masked kidnapers seized him with his sisters Marie and Olga on a highway south of Kenosha. The abduction followed a strike marked by bombings at the plant since February and authorities hunt for the barn and pig pen described by Hendrickson.
Mike J. Gavigan a popular Butte mine foreman and Democratic sheriff candidate died at St James hospital after a long illness. He spent his life in Butte and rose from stope work to assistant foreman at the High Ore mine. He was noted as perhaps the most popular man in the mining city. Continued on page 2.

Kenneth Elwood Frazer of San Francisco avoided Mann Act charges after admitting auto theft to take Miss Mary Edna Stone to Seattle. Frazer cited a companionate marriage plan with Stone, saying they would be friends for six months then marry. The pair met when Stone was a university student and Frazer worked as a waiter.
John Coolidge son of the president was riding with Governor John H. Trumbull when their car collided with another vehicle. He and the governor’s chauffeur were unhurt but two people in the other car were hospitalized. Coolidge will testify to the deputy coroner tomorrow.
