Bozeman hosts the Montana Democratic Convention where factions in the lobbies voice a strong judgment that Heinze is beaten and the party’s future control will be decided by the convention.
On the eve of Montana's Democratic state convention, Heinze faces bleak odds to break into the party as Bozeman welcomes delegates from Deer Lodge, Silver Bow, and elsewhere. A Brass Band cautionary banner and trains arriving from Butte signal heated sentiment and heavy anticipation for the 10:30 a.m. convention.
Helena reports Governor Toole and the state pardons board granted clemency to Henry Fr. Clark alias Emil Fuglies, who held up residents a decade ago and shot Helena Policeman Grogan. His 49 year sentence is commuted after serving about 20 years. he may leave the state penitentiary on Christmas Eve.
Heinze faces possible court injunction to seating of his contested delegates as Montana Republicans prepare for a convention. Maj William Davenport a renowned Montana pioneer and businessman died at his Helena home at 11 35 pm aged 80 He was born January 17 1822 in Bourbon County Kentucky and arrived in Montana in 1864 He lived in Diamond City before moving to Helena where he engaged in mining and stock raising He is survived by his wife daughters Mrs A J Davidson and Miss Pearl Davenport and son Donald Davenport
New York police report Bert Edwards claimed to be William Hooper Young after ID by Mac Levy in Brooklyn. He will be brought to New York with extradition waived. A trunk from his Derby arrest held bloodstained clothing and personal items tied to Mrs. Annie Pulitzer, whose body was moved to Perth Amboy.
Derby Conn September 22 William Hooper Young jailed on suspicion in murder of Mrs Annie Nelson Pulitzer. He later confessed identity to Mac Levy and Detective Sergeant Edward Hughes of New York. Authorities say he may have admitted an accomplice but exact details were not released. He will be taken to New York tomorrow evening.
Deputy Sheriff Rob Bins departed for Warm Springs with Michael Sheehy adjudged insane Saturday. This marks his second term at the asylum. The same train carried Chief of Police Jackson and Ed McCoy who is en route to Deer Lodge for a one year sentence for second degree assault.
