A fierce tornado devastates several Nebraska communities causing loss of lives and extensive property damage. Meanwhile a hurricane delivers destructive winds across Puerto Rico with millions in losses reported as the storm moves inland.
War victors consider a new proposal to withdraw the army from the Rhine in favor of appointing a special commission. The plan aims to ease the Allied forces by shifting control and reducing constant entries amid the ongoing storms affecting operations.
Art Goebel lands in Arizona before a massive crowd as he travels to Los Angeles where thousands cheer his arrival. Strong winds accompany the event, underscoring the public excitement.

A tornado velocity wind storm hit Rindge and Keene New Hampshire during an electric storm. It tore up trees and chimneys, toppled roofs, felled poles, and cut communications. No deaths or injuries were reported.
Geneva dispatch notes a plan to form a conciliation and verification commission to oversee Rhine evacuation. Germany would agree only if the commission starts when the last allied troops leave and ends by 1935. Chancellor Mueller will refer the proposal to his cabinet, while Briand returns to Paris for cabinet discussions on a successor to M. Bokonowski.
Boise Idaho Sept 13 L Demaray 53 of Star was sentenced in district court to four months in jail for prohibition violations and fainted in court. He remained unconscious at a late hour today.
Three men died and seven were badly burned when a battery of crude oil stills exploded at the Standard Oil refinery in El Segundo California near Los Angeles. The dead were Foreman Thomas J Davis Lawn dale Charles E Lambert Redondo Beach Fred J Holden El Segundo. The injured included J T Edwards Lawndale O C Hesser El Segundo Harry W Booth Cary W Redfuss Robert G McClelland and William L Lane all of El Segundo or nearby towns. The blast shook nearby beach towns and fire was contained with a special extinguishing solution.
Roosevelts Field N Y Sept 13 Three pilots forced out of the non stop air derby vow a cross country race starting tomorrow for the satisfaction of finishing what they began. The Bellanca North Star and two Stinsons, all repaired, will compete unofficially with Captain Stephen D Day as starter and adviser. The Stillman crew includes Oliver Le Boutillier and George King while Clifford FE McMillan sails the standard Stinson.
Six hydroplanes returned to Cherbourg at nightfall with no trace of the postal hydroplane that disappeared this afternoon after being launched 800 miles at sea from the Ile de France. Authorities alerted ships and coastal stations as tug Mamouth continues a careful coastal search.

A lone bandit robbed fifty riders in the club car of the Southern Pacific Lark train from Los Angeles to San Francisco between here and Glendale. About $800 to $900 taken, robber escapes via vestibule door as train nears Glendale. Police overwhelmed with the case as Glendale and LA police join the search.
Paul Jaworski, famed for the Pittsburg express truck bombing and jail escape, was shot and captured in Cleveland after a confrontation in a restaurant. Patrolman Anthony Wieczorek was killed. fellow officer George Effinger and bystander Ben Majsterek were wounded. Jaworski was believed dying tonight.
Associated Press report from Sacramento states Percy F. Barnes died of heart trouble in his jail cell, disproving earlier police belief that his death was by suicide. Barnes had killed four relatives of his divorced wife.
