Honolulu reports the Republican territorial convention nominated Prince WNalaulauaole known as Prince Cupid for delegate to Congress. Democrats and Home Rule fuse, endorsing RK W. Wilcox for reelection and placing Democrats on the Home Rule ticket. Ex Queen Liliuokalani reportedly backs the prince against Wilcox. The GOP platform calls for city and county government in Hawaii. Also notes Kikula volcano eruption with lava lake and earthquake felt at Hilo. Fr T Merry of Kauai found dead from pistol wound, likely suicide. Ex-Queen Lilinokalani’s 14th anniversary birthday celebrated at her residence with native attendance.
In Deadwood South Carolina on September 9 President Roosevelt disapproved of the proposed cowboy race to Omaha. Secretary Cortelyou telegrammed Captain Seth Bullock saying the president would not permit the race without supervision of horse condition and asks that the race be canceled.
Tacoma from Sept 9 reports a Republican state convention race with Cushman Jones and Humphrey leading renomination bids. Rail unions push for an appointive railway commission, threatening action including moving Northern Pacific headquarters.
Louis Loubet, declared insane by a lunacy commission, was sent to Warm Springs asylum this morning in charge of Sheriff H. K. Penner. He made several unsuccessful escape attempts while in the jail and again as officers prepared to depart.
Joseph Cohen charged with extortion and conspiracy was arraigned on three indictments and released on bail. He arrived from Montana in custody of four deputy sheriffs. Tonight Assistant County Attorney Jelly and Victor Welch travel to West Baden Ind to take deposition and probe Mayor Ames health delaying trial.
The Stromboli volcano on the Lipari island group erupts in full force with large columns of fire and torrents of stones. Mt Vesuvius shows activity as Stromboli population of about 500 residents is noted with the crater erupting intensely.

Governor Stone seeks a conference with President Mitchell for a meeting likely tomorrow.
Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania reports that early today President Mitchell stated he had received no information from Governor Stone regarding a possible conference.
Panama reports the surrender of General Berti and his Agua Dulce garrison to Colombian insurgents after a siege that began July 28. Insurgent General Herrera honors Berti’s defense, while Berti cites lack of food and delayed government relief. Salzar becomes supreme commander as forces dig in around Panama and Colon ahead of potential battles along the Panama-Colon rail line. reinforcements are en route and the Bogota vessel’s delayed departure fuels conservative disappointment.
The Venezuelan president Castro telegram to the consul general says a fierce battle occurred today at Finaquilio where Generals Luciano Mendoza and Riera led the revolutionary army to defeat ensuring national peace.
