Cattle in Big Hole This Year

John Herman, a Wisdon rancher, says Big Hole hay production will exceed last year with yields of one to one and a half tons per acre. Declining hay prices to 12 15 dollars a ton prompt ranchers to fatten cattle for savings on shipping. Herman expects over 5000 tons of hay to feed, began haying in late July with three crews and may finish in two weeks. He notes crews stayed steady despite a wage strike.
