The text alleges W A Clark uses fiat shinplaster currency in Jerome Arizona tied to the Amal Famated Copper company stores. It claims Clark controls the town, prints and redeems his own money, and owns the business and family network around Jerome, including Miller in law relations.
Clark issues currency slips redeemable only at his store and at 20 percent discount. Miners and camp workers in Jerome live on this system, receiving pay as "shinplasters" and must use them for board, hospital fees, and purchases at the company store. W A Clark denounces Amalgamated Copper as he highlights a May 1899 report on a $200 million copper trust uniting U S and Canadian interests. The newspaper notes European investors, Rio Tinto ties, and Clark's role in energizing the copper market across Paris bourses.

Great Falls October 30 The independent democratic rally at the opera house drew a large, attentive crowd. Hon. Thomas S. Hogan and Hon. Cornelius F. Kelley were greeted warmly as State Treasurer Collins chaired. Kelley spoke on the party's origins and national questions, urging unity and support.
Governor Robert B. Smith spoke at Miles hall Livingston to a large crowd praising national issues and condemning W A Clark for alleged corruption and bribery during the legislature. The governor urged support for the independent democratic party and to reject Clark.
The Helena convention saw labor leaders split from Clark and Heinze faction amid a push for the independent democratic party. A petition of 5,000 workers backed Thomas S. Hogan for governor, praising him as a living exponent of the eight hour law. Hogan disputed a circulating defamatory rumor and pledged to defend labor and citizen rights against corporate encroachment if elected, receiving strong audience support.
A Clark event in Billings on October 9 drew a stifled crowd despite paid supporters mobilizing men and horses. Speaker J R Sovereign attacked the independent Democrats and Thomas Hogan, drawing quiet contempt and little genuine enthusiasm beyond paid applause from youths in the gallery.
