Ole Olsson a Swede held at the Great Falls jail created chaos and twice attempted to saw his head off with glass. After being subdued by jailer Pete McDonnell he awoke with a dislocated left shoulder likely for a week. He was treated with chloroform and the shoulder reset. he promised to take the pledge once able to write.
Joe Richards, a Butte undertaker, and his wife toured California spending five weeks visiting Windsor in Sonoma County and San Francisco. He witnessed cremation of five bodies at a cemetery, noted cremation ads in Frisco, and predicted rising grape and wine values, praising California's vineyards and pondering grape ranch investment.
In Middlesboro Kentucky on October 27 George Mays was killed and Joe Nail mortally wounded at the Quarter house on the Tennessee line. Nail died from a wound inflicted by an unknown assailant after a melee in which several people fought. Mays reportedly killed several men during the altercation.
Victoria report states the sealing schooners Fawn Annie FE Paint and E B Marvin returned from the Bering Sea. Fawn carried 304 skins, Annie FE Paint 642 skins, and E B Marvin 489 skins, three branded. All endured heavy weather from Unimak.
