President Mitchell met with district presidents Nicholls Duffy and Fahey in Wilkesbarre to present his case for miners to the arbitration board. He received a gold badge and watch from Polish Lithuanian and Slavish UMW members and expressed gratitude and a goal of ending strikes for harmony between labor and capital.
District Presidents and other leaders spoke as Mr. Mitchell departed from Lehigh Valley depot for Washington to attend the coal strike commission meeting. A movement to raise funds among Polish, Lithuanian and Slavish miners is mentioned, and crews clear mines for a resumption of work with a heavy coal output expected tomorrow.
In Scranton on October 26 a group of six non union workers at Oxford colliery were beaten and pursued by union workers from Bellevue colliery. The two mines share gangways and passages, and the attackers cornered the victims at a crosscut before the victims sought safety near the mule barn in the Oxford workings.
Daniel S. Jacobs, chair of the miners defense fund for the Central Federated union, said the anthracite strike was off and no additional contributions would be levied. Delegate Thielland of the Ec centric Firemen's union noted the International Association of Stationary Firemen order is ignored as striking miners are reinstated.
The Minneapolis News notes that a chronological history of the 1992 anthracite strike omits the behind the scenes story. It suggests John Mitchell could write a million copy book but will not, keeping the insider view out of public reach. Continued on Page Four.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, famed suffragist, dies at her New York home aged near end of life. Old age listed as cause as family notes rapid decline last week. Susan B. Anthony recalls Stanton as a courageous leader and prolific writer who helped spark constitutional and state suffrage efforts.
The funeral of Dr Henry A Cayley, a respected Butte physician, drew a huge crowd and heavy fraternal attendance. Eagles, Elks, Woodmen and other orders led a long procession from Institut Canadien to St Patrick’s church and finally to the cemetery, with 1,200 organizers, priests, and pallbearers taking part and many floral tributes.
Special Dispatch to the Standard from Helena reports Montana Jack known as Mr. Millan sustained two broken ribs a thigh injury and a scalp wound in a recent incident. Police and locals provide few details as investigation continues.
Montana Jack, famed Montana horseman and longtime charioteer in circuses and wild west shows, is wounded in a runaway accident near the capitol. He was thrown from his bogey during a spirited team run, the first mishap in his long career.
W D Coyl a Chicago building and loan agent advertised cheap loans in Billings. A M Peters of the Yellow stone Building and Loan wired the Secretary of State to check Coyle’s compliance with Montana law. The sheriff warned him to stop until proper permission and financial showing were filed, with possible prosecution if he resumes.
Special dispatch from Livingston notes the Park county district court will convene Monday for a short term. Key criminal cases include murder in the first degree against David Brockus and grand larceny charges against Charles Clifford, with Henry Butman appealing a game law conviction. Civil matters feature the Rock Creek water dispute, likely not reached this term.

Rome October 26 It is decided to install wireless telegraph apparatus at all stations and on passenger trains across Italian railways. King Victor Emmanuel has named William Marconi a chevalier of the order of industrial merit.
Floods in Calabria province have caused multiple drownings. In addition to the flood disaster, renewed earthquake shocks were felt at Rieti in Umbria, signaling ongoing seismic activity in central Italy.
Missoula dispatch reports a head end collision three miles west of Hope Idaho caused by order misunderstanding. Fireman Thomas P Sayers died. Engineer Bussey survived serious injuries. Sayers, 33, had been in multiple accidents and leaves a sister in Tower City North Dakota. funeral plans pending.
Three thousand tulips were planted along the sidewalks of Margaret and Whittier parks under the direction of the park board. The bulbs, arranged in triple rows, promise a beautiful display in early spring. The board plans more bulb plantings and tower beds across city parks next year.
Special Dispatch reports Ernest Wright of Benton is in Great Falls. An old-time resident, he now ranches and raises stock near the head of navigation and plans to move back to Great Falls to make his home soon and likely stay through the winter.
