One man was killed and four wounded in Dublin during Saturday police raids. Irish financier Lord Mayor MacSwiney was reported near death by the prison physician as military searches for arms and congregations of churches were halted. London reports the statement from the prison doctor.
Harry Dawes, 26, of Livingston, died from wood alcohol moonshine in a room at the Edison block on East Galena street. Conductor C. E. Newton of the Northern Pacific is held by the county attorney for investigation. Dawes companion A H Jenks and supplier George Condrey are detained without bonds. Newton was arrested in Butte after Condrey identified him as the liquor source.
Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, wires that the League covenant’s labor provisions are a labor bill of rights. He notes AFL endorsement at the 1919 convention and urges U S workers to back the league for lasting benefits to wage earners and global standards.
