Suspension ends at 7 tomorrow though output remains limited. engineers and pumpmen fear job security and non union workers return to work while unions warn of dismissal risks for incompetent hires.
Pottsville Pa Oct 22 The striking miners aim to resume work while several collieries in the Schuylkill district resist full reopening. Many pump runners engineers and others have already gone back to their posts.

Higginsville Missouri October 22 The James H Looney Coal company the Banza Coal company and the Consolidated Farmers Coal company signed the union scale today and the men will return to work tomorrow. The miners are much elated.
Reading Pennsylvania October 22 reports a surge in coal traffic as thousands of coal cars long sidetracked in yards across the region are being prepared for service.

Hazleton reports Camila Isabeck, a United Mine worker, beaten on return from Pittsburg where he had worked since the strike began. Two Hazleton men were arrested by soldiers from the first regiment after a woman witness fired a revolver to stop the arrests.
Scranton report notes three Italians employed at the Dodge washery of the Delaware Lackawanna and Western company during an incident on October 22. Details remain limited but the items reference workers and the Delaware Lackawanna yard.
A mob attacked workers returning from work this evening. Two were rescued by city police and taken to Lackawanna hospital. Thomas Brown escaped to Bellevue where four men beat him again and threw him into a yard. he was found in a pool of blood. His injuries are serious but not fatal. No arrests reported.
Shenandoah Pa Oct 22 The Mill Creek Coal colliery required workers to sign a contract at the store before reinstate ment. Many refused and went home. Superintendent Jones in Harleton said the paper bars interference with non union men or those now at work. A number said they will not sign.
Doctrine Pocatello Idaho Oct 22 William J Bryan spent the day in Idaho arriving from Utah early this morning and returning over the same route after his last speech here tonight He spoke at Rexburg St Anthony Idaho Falls Shelly Blackfoot and twice at Pocatello The auditorium was packed and Bryan addressed crowds for about 30 minutes outside and two hours inside urging election of the Democratic nominee for congress and a Democratic legislature to choose a Democratic U S senator He denounced Republican principles as fostering trusts promoting imperialism and enriching a few at the expense of the many
Special Dispatch to the Standard reports the Northern Pacific division Dispatchers office for Montana has relocated from Helena to Livingston. Four dispatchers serve the line from Billings to Livingston, Livingston to Helena, and Helena to Missoula. Fitzgerald and Lent return to Livingston with Lent named assistant dispatcher and Fitzgerald named night chief.
The Lyons register of the treasury report shows total US bond holdings of 782 million with foreigners holding 16 million, 12.6 million via insurance deposits. Individual foreign holdings amount to 3.4 million, led by 4 percent 1925 loan. American capital remains willing to invest in national securities.
The year shows total holdings across holds and individuals with bonds issued 117,240,530 and canceled 174,991,270. A 12,000 payment on 1865 Pacific railway bonds completed their redemption. Vault bonds total 1,254,219,240 covering government loans. Paper destroyed this year amounted to 67,179,978.
Big Timber reports a thriving cattle and sheep market with buyers present for two weeks, lifting prices for feeders and fat sheep. North Dakota Minnesota buyers target 2 and 3 year old wethers and old ewes, while grain screenings feed lots push broader feeding plans and Montana producers gain a new outlet for poorer quality stock. Northern Pacific has ordered 60 cattle cars and 75 sheep cars to be loaded in the next ten days.
Chief of Police Thomas Travis received a telegram from Seattle stating Inez Perry, the woman charged with robbing a returned Klondiker of 500 dollars, has been arrested there and will be returned to Helena to face charges.
Washington reports Benjamin York named postmaster at Bernice replacing Jabez Doney who resigned. Mary Wilson named postmistress at Pondera.
Leonard Luther of Lake Basin appeared before Justice Frast in Billings on October 22 for a preliminary examination on the charge of stealing a calf.
Luther and his brother were arrested by Stock Inspector Webb on cattle theft allegations. Luther remained in district court under a 590 bond, while Leonard Luther was seized. the other brother fled. Webb notes the Luthers owned cattle in Basin and allegedly weaned calves and branded them, with numerous complaints forthcoming.
William Welch also known as Peter Johnson was arrested by Officer Hayden on a bad check charge after cashing a check with no funds at the bank and indorsing it through Dr. Fitzmorrie. The man claimed the name Peter Johnson and said he should have had fifty dollars in the bank. He faces arraignment after admitting the alias and confessing attempted cashed checks with others.
After a vexatious delay the Livingston Public schools reopened for the term and enrollment was the largest in the city’s history. Additional quarters may be needed to house all pupils despite expanded facilities from the new east side school. East side sessions will run two hours daily due to dampness. Miss Brady resigns as fifth grade teacher and Miss Hatfield of Savannah, Tenn. will fill the vacancy.
Peter Henderson aged about 75 and a long-time resident of Park County died in Gardiner yesterday from pneumonia. He was an old-timer of the upper Yellowstone country and his funeral in Gardiner drew a large crowd today.
Livingston October 22 General Kobbe and Col. George F. E. Pond chief quarter master of the department of the Dakota returned from Yellowstone where they inspected the new electric light plant under construction at the post. They proceed to St. Paul from there.
Dr H A Cayley’s doctors declare no chance of recovery as paralysis and pain worsen at St James hospital in Butte. Police pursue Ruth La Bonta after she allegedly confessed to shooting Cayley while J W Kelley remains jailed. A final attempt to locate the bullet with new X rays is planned, with surgery possible though unlikely to help.
In Berlin on Oct 22 Dr. Dickie of the American church spoke with Boer generals and asked why they would go to America. General Botha said it was due to many prominent Americans being of Dutch descent and sympathetic to the Boers. General Dewet added that many cousins of his family live in America and that the DeWitts in America are distant kin.
In Billings on October 22 a man with unknown name was arrested on a charge of stealing an overcoat from in front of the Golden Rule store one day earlier. The coat was pawned to an employee of Yegen's harness shop for three dollars, and the arrest followed from the description connected to the money.
Livingston reports the new Northern Pacific time card will be ready for printers. Westbound No. 3 arrives 6 10 am instead of 5 20 am. Eastbound No. 2 arrives 6 19 am instead of 9 10 am. No. 4 arrives 8 40 pm instead of 2 20 am. No. 6 Burlingon arrives 5 20 am an hour earlier.
Oct 22 report from Big Timber notes Campbell in charge of 20 men stringing 15 miles of copper wire daily for the Northern Pacific. They aim to reach Billings by Oct 28, with wire moved from Livingston to Glendive to connect with a Paul wire, linking Livingston offices to the St Paul general offices.
