Italian anarchist attempted to kill King Leopold II as he rode to attend a memorial service for the late Queen. The attack missed the royal target with all shots failing to strike. Authorities reported the assailant subdued and no others harmed.
A man named Rubino fired three shots at King Leopold II as the royal procession approached the cathedral. The revolver had blanks in another chamber. Rubino was arrested after a crowd attack on his cab. He claimed anarchist beliefs and said he came from London to kill monarchs, including the Belgian king. Police report he planned to shoot the king but avoided soldiers. He faces investigation as authorities seek accomplices.
A party of St Paul hunters and guides Jerry Taylor and T W Wilson plan a mountain search in Montana for Superintendent B F Egan who is missing. Mrs. McCloud recently obtained a divorce from Fred McCloud on grounds of desertion and intemperance. attorney was George H. Stanton. She had been employed at Shelby hotels.
J James Martin proprietor of the Owt drug store at East Broadway died after being found severely ill in the rear of the shop. Initial reports suggest chloral and alcohol involvement, with witnesses noting a pallid, gasping condition before death at 2 10 am. Martin, born in Cornwall, came to Butte in 1884 and left a brother W B Martin and partner Willis Horn.
President Castro's first lieutenant Leopoldo Baptista sailed with three warships and 1,500 men to reoccupy Coro 203 miles northwest of Caracas. A five hour battle ended with government troops capturing the town as revolutionaries retreated toward Sabaneta. 23 insurgents fled toward the northwest, pursued by Baptista's force.
