Tokyo replies to Washington regarding September note on Japanese troop cooperation for the Transsiberian railroad. It stresses protecting the line and aiding operation but rejects subordination to the allied commission, offering to provide facts and explanations to resolve misunderstandings.
In a snow swept tribute, Butte high students escort the football eleven to the Great Northern depot. Stevens confesses at 3 AM naming James Ford and George Blodgett of the Palmer hotel, who deny involvement. He says the money was opened and split then bound and gagged to fake a robbery.
A man giving the name Fred Taylor was arrested in Missoula just before midnight by Chief of Police Moore and Chief of Police Murphy of Butte after local investigators tied him to the October 28 attempted robbery of the W. A. Clark and Bro. bank. He will be taken to Butte for possible identification.
Springfield Illinois November 7 1927 Congressman William A Rodenburg of West St Louis announced Gov Frank C Lowden of Illinois as presidential candidate and named Gov Calvin Coolidge of Massachusetts as running mate at a campaign rally Rodenburg will deliver the nominating speech at the national convention.
A nationwide raid led by William J. Flynn arrested more than 200 radicals at the Russian soviet republic headquarters. Fifty were held for deportation as undesired aliens, eight women detained with two facing deportation. Raids were reported in Philadelphia, Detroit, Newark, Chicago, San Francisco and other cities as authorities say 36 warrants were issued for highly active radicals.
The Senate approved a committee preamble on reservations by a 48 to 40 vote, setting a binding by three of four great powers. President Wilson supports the administration plan to Deadlock the ratification fight while negotiations continue. Senator Hitchcock met with Wilson to discuss strategy and warned against compromising on reservations before a deadlock develops.
The Montana trade commission will hold a series of sittings in Butte starting November 20 to fix maximum prices under the anti profiteering act. Beginning December 1 all articles must be marked with invoice and selling prices and a full classification of merchandise kept updated daily. Consumers are urged to report violations. penalties start at $100.
In Indianapolis Indiana on November 7 the miners move to dismiss the government's right to interfere in the strike. If overruled the government seeks a temporary injunction to bar mine workers leaders from participating in conduct of the strike. Eleventh hour efforts by Samuel Gompers to settle the coal strike were met with an emphatic declaration on the government unit injunction.
