County officers swept 12 places in Butte Meaderville and the flats for a gambling probe. Officers Pederson Bourquin and Reynolds demolished paraphernalia and suspicious tables in cigar stores buffets and roadhouses along a West Park street to south of the colity route. No arrests were made.
Complete returns show former Representative Dale Republican elected senator from Vermont to succeed the late Dillingham. Republicans gain a 6 vote Senate majority. Governors Fields and Whitfield win in Kentucky and Mississippi respectively, with Maryland and Virginia votes reflecting mixed results. House seats mostly GOP with 225 Republicans, 205 Democrats, plus minor parties. New York Assembly GOP majority indicated. Mayoral contests favor Kendrick in Philadelphia and Doremus in Detroit. Virginia highway bond proposal rejected.

Pocatello Idaho November 6 The condition of Lieutenant Governor Story of Montana remains about the same he is unconscious with slight rally at times. Surgeons report brain concussion from temple contusion and paralysis of the lower limbs due to spinal injury. Mrs Story's body was sent to Bozeman last night and doctors expect Story to be in hospital about ten days to two weeks if he survives.
President Harding personally stopped deliveries from the veterans bureau depot at Perryville Maryland. The actions traced to November 24 1922 when a 3 million dollar sale to Thompson and Kelly Inc of Boston was halted and again January 24 1923 after a White House meeting with Charles R Forbes. The senate committee heard testimony on the case and related internal bureau concerns including a burglary at Chillicothe Ohio tied to the bureau.
Lieutenant Alford J. Williams and Lieutenant Harold J. Brow staged an air carnival at Mitchell Field New York where Williams climbed 5 000 feet in one minute to set what officials believe is a new fast climbing record. The rivals planned a 12 kilometer race next Saturday as crowds of twelve thousand attended before darkness postponed the event.
Montana apple lovers gather as Butte hosts the first commercial apple show opening at the chamber of commerce for four days. Over 400 boxes display varieties from Bitter Root, Jefferson, Flathead and Gallatin valleys with growers present to restore state trade and a housewife apple naming contest featured.
The Montana State College grain judging trio led by Winton Weydemeyer of Libby won first place at the Northwest Grain and Hay show in Portland, with William Hay of Wilton second and Louis Neuman fifth individually. Their team finished about 200 points ahead of rivals, and Montana also earned livestock honors at the Pacific International Live Stock Show with multiple top placements.

BECKLEY West Virginia 27 men were killed by an explosion in the Glen Rogers mine of the Raleigh Wyoming coal company in a remote mountain district 25 miles from Beckley at 8 o'clock this morning. Rescue crews searched for two missing men as 25 bodies were recovered.
Chairman J H Rowe announced there would be no opening ceremony for Montana Way In as the highway is now open and in use. Donors will receive 4 by 6 enamel tags reading Subscriber to the Montana Holmes highway, distributed from the chamber of commerce. The subscribers list will be filed with county commissioners for federal income tax purposes once amounts are checked.
The body of Mrs. Nelson Story Jr wife of Lt Governor Story arrives in Bozeman from Pocatello after a fatal auto crash in Idaho. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 1 30 PM with Bishop W F Faber officiating and burial in Bozeman cemetery.

Eighteen persons were slightly injured when engine and baggage and mail cars of the St Louis San Francisco passenger train No 802 overturned and three coaches derailed at Brooks Junction 155 miles south of St Louis. The train was en route from Memphis to St Louis and two mail clerks and one white passenger were among those injured. none required medical attention. Wrecking crews were being sent to clear the tracks.
Dr. Fred B. Johnson says the Coburn shooting linked to the Evans faction prompted warrants for Hiram W. Charles C. McCormick switch foreman for the Great Northern died saving a train from a rock on the tracks. The 64 year old railroad veteran, born in Albion Wisconsin, acted without thought for himself, hurling the boulder off the rails as an inbound train approached, then collapsing exhausted.
