Ouster vote questions city treasurer bond case
In a tense council session the fate of city treasurer Riley hung on a tie and a mayoral casting vote. The finance committee sought bonding relief from the Federal Bonding Co amid questions of liability and amended requests. The Judiciary Committee split, with eight to seven votes for and against ouster, and adjournment followed as the council moved to avoid acting on the resolution in the same meeting. Treasurer Riley, bonded for 150000 with 80000 carried by Federal Surety Co, offered no immediate remarks beyond a brief smile and a possible statement from his attorney.
