Anaconda News C H Morgan Stocks Streams With Trout
C H Morgan, chief game warden, returned from Flathead and Lincoln counties where he placed over a million eastern brook trout fry into streams. He conducted two night runs from the Kalispell hatchery, reaching stations along the route where residents cared for the fish. Fry were also placed in upper Sun River country in Lewis and Clark county, with nearly all eastern brook output distributed except one road to Havre. Next trip plans include about 600,000 rainbow trout to Big Boulder Creek near Big Timber. Grayling runs at Georgetown Lake promise a large spawn for Washoe Park hatchery. Morgan reports good conditions for fish this spring and strong public support for stocking. The department also combats elk destruction near Gardiner, with more than 200 elk reportedly killed and individuals summoned to court. The once common practice of using elk teeth as emblems has largely faded, the Hodge position noting the decline.
