Copper stocks in the East Sax market showed little action as bears pressed prices while bulls pushed back, leaving no tangible driver. Amalgamated, Anaconda, North Butte and other issues fluctuated with mixed openings and closings, total sales totaling 428,100 units.

The Red Metal company plans to sink the Cora mine shaft from its current depth of 1,690 feet to 2,200 feet, aiming for 400 feet more stoping ground. The 1,600 foot hoist was replaced with a heavier 3,000 foot engine, formerly used at Granite-Bimetallic, now in good condition and nearly new. The Cora mine is a solid producer and the deeper shaft seeks a steady ore output.
Charles FE. Morris reported from Pony on Monday that stamps at the Strawberry mill would be latched to ore from the Cliff mine and Morris Elling estates. Preparations are underway for ore treatment and work on nearby Clipper and Ross Tweed properties. He noted active mining at Oregon, Garnet, and other local properties with steady shipments.
The Boston and Montana company ordered two air compressors rated for 50 or 60 drills each. One unit will go to Leonard mine and the other to another good Butte property. Nordberg Machinery of Milwaukee supplied the hoisting engines for Leonard and North Butte and secured the contract.
Bond papers on the Johnston Moffet copper properties near Bear Gulley are executed and a force will be employed at once to explore the mines and assess ore bodies. Mining Engineer H. C. Wilmot with Alexander Johnston and John McBarron returned to Butte with ore samples from both Moffet and Johnston tunnels.
Northern Pacific unveils annual teachers vacation rate details for Butte and Anaconda. Tickets go on sale May 29 and June 2 3 9 and 11. Stop overs allowed within a 10 day transit window and a Sept 15 return limit. Rates vary by destination with Chicago St Louis intermediate points at higher cost.
