The Chancellor of the University, acting with examiners, is authorized to conclude a contract with architects to proceed with construction of new state institution buildings. The action follows formal approval and outlines the next steps for design and procurement.
The Montana state board of examiners ordered the selection of architects for university and state school buildings. Architects will be paid 4 percent of project costs plus consulting fees, with plans for libraries gymnasiums dormitories and industrial facilities across several campuses including Bozeman Helena Missoula Great Falls Kalispell and Butte.
Mrs. Kate Mahoney aged 72 is missing during her honeymoon. Authorities report Mahoney alleges a forged order for a safety deposit. Police say her husband is in custody as part of the investigation.
Seattle dispatch reports a nation wide search for Kate M Mahoney 72 longtime Butte resident formerly Kate Keeler daughter of Charles Schultz who ran the famous West Side roadhouse in the 1880s. Her husband James B Mahoney 38 is held on first degree forgery charges. The case centers on a forged signature granting access to a safe deposit vault. Mahoney was paroled from Walla Walla penitentiary last December. The Schultz family once operated the West Side roadhouse near Tivoli brewery and a later rooming house in Anaconda.
The Union Pacific Railroad completed acquisition of full ownership of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad by exchanging securities worth 29 million dollars. The deal, announced by both parties, secures Southern California rails from Los Angeles to the Pacific at San Pedro and positions the road as part of the Union Pacific system. The Clark interests sold their stake as part of the transaction.
Mrs A F Rice of Butte was re elected president of the Montana League of Women Voters at the closing session of a two day conference in Butte. Officers include J B Ellis vice president Kate Jamison was named for a former dean role with higher pay. Resolutions urged maternity protections direct citizenship for married women and world disarmament while opposing primary repeal and political meddling in schools.
State police headquarters reported two men killed in fighting along the Tug River near Nolan. West Virginia trooper private Rackley and Manley Vaughn of Kentucky were among the wounded as Captain Norton and other officers dispatched to the scene.
Mrs Ellen Kcan tentatively seated juror PTE McGannon was banished from the jury fined 50 dollars and costs and sentenced to six months in jail by a common pleas judge Florence Alten on contempt charges. Griffith was accused by Catherine Chambers of ballot tampering. McGannon was found not guilty.
Ottawa May 25 final figures on the Canada temperance act were announced showing 840 173 in favor and 313 03 against. The appeal to the Supreme Court to review lower court decrees was noted with emphasis on Ontario and cane days.
A May issue of the Butte Citizen claims $65 000 is being paid from the widows pension and county poor fund to ineligible recipients. Judge Lynch and the board of commissioners dispute the report and will hear evidence as investigators seek to correct alleged abuses. King, a county official, calls the statement a falsehood and asks for facts to be shown.
Sinn Fein forces attacked the Dublin Custom House causing its ruin and the loss of government papers. Seven civilians were killed, 11 wounded, 111 captured, with many believed dead in flames. The building housed key admin offices including the local government board and stamp and Inland Revenue departments.
Mrs. Winter, president of the Women's Federated Clubs of the United States, arrived in Butte to attend the Montana eight state meeting. She will speak at 11 48 at the chamber of commerce and again this evening before departing for Pocatello and the Idaho convention.
The Senate votes 44 to 0 to approve Senator Borah's amendment inviting Britain and Japan to a conference with U S representatives to seek disarmament agreement. The measure, backed by administration forces, moves to the House for action and anticipated presidential support. Debates on minor amendments stalled the final passage as senators from La Follette and King offered changes.
