Found 6:15 am, his throat cut four inches deep near the jugular, while two fellow inmates slept nearby. Malette, a longtime stone cutter, had been ill and expressed a desire to die, even suggesting boating down the river over the falls. He had carried the razor all day and drew the curtains before dying.
