Indiana's Republican convention started with a clash as U S senators and the governor were blocked from addressing delegates. Officials prepared for tomorrow's ballot to nominate a governor candidate and ten other state officers. Governor Ed Jackson's speech on bribery charges was suppressed but his full address was released to papers. The night featured keynote by George M. Barnard and remarks by Fred S. Purnell as district delegates organized for Kansas City.
Levi S. Wild, 82, beloved Butte pioneer and veteran telegraph operator, died at Murray hospital from injuries suffered when he was struck by a hit and run motorist on the morning of March 18. He remained unconscious from Tuesday afternoon until his death yesterday. His son Edgar Wild is mentioned in the notice.

President Coolidge vetoed the McNary-Haugen farm relief bill, calling it unconstitutional and deceptive. He returned the measure to the Senate with a caustic disapproval and urged a farm bill based on his annual message, while Congress reaction mixed with approval from some administration supporters and disappointment from farm leaders.

In Beaumont on May 23, Governor Dan Moody led a Delaware like move to bind Texas delegates to a dry platform and a dry presidential candidate. Moody’s forces defeated Smith faction aims and set Texas national delegates to be chosen by a committee, ensuring only dry delegates. Moody was elected delegation chairman.

Four gunmen who robbed the Lamar bank and killed its president and cashier stopped at a Trinidad drug store seeking aid for a wounded accomplice. A 1,000 man posse hunted them as reports said $195,000 in securities and $7,000 in cash were taken.

Col. Charles A. Lindbergh announced he will not undertake a transatlantic flight this year and has no plans for one. He said his study focused on possible routes via Greenland or the Azores and emphasized interest in route feasibility rather than any immediate expedition.
A bomb exploded in a lavatory of the chamber of deputies in Mexico City shortly after a special session ended. A second bomb was found nearby and is being inspected by police. No casualties or major damage reported.

Henry Gardiner of Anaconda won first in the Montana State College extempore speaking finals at Bozeman. Joe Livers of Great Falls took second and Alice Vandenhook of Bozeman finished third. Gardiner, son of Dr. H C Gardiner of Anaconda, is an honor student and the first son of a college alumnus to matriculate there.
Butte Telephone Exchange plans a $2,000,000 Montana upgrade to switch from manual to dial service by end of 1929. Alex Remneus, local manager, announced the change, noting substantial work and cost but continued employment for some operators. The transition will end after December 1929 with automatic dialing replacing the old hello system.
