Revolutionists failed to carry out their programme as May Day protests were swiftly contained with no injuries or fatalities reported. Authorities described the demonstration as orderly and dispersed without incident.
Reports from St Petersburg and other Russian cities describe a largely peaceful May Day with scattered disturbances. Cossacks patrolled streets with whips as crowds gathered at memorials for the January martyrs. authorities credit mass arrests and disciplined guards for limiting violence.

Former American minister to China KF H Conger, newly named ambassador to Mexico, arrives in San Francisco with Mrs Conger. He asserts China has maintained strict neutrality in the Russo Japanese War and denies rumors of Boxer uprisings, insisting no organized anti foreign movement exists and the government is prepared to suppress any incipient action.
Fierce two week fighting on Jolo pits Moro chief Pala and 600 followers against American forces under Maj. Gen. Leonard Wood. Pala’s losses reach 300 dead. Wood’s side seven dead and 19 wounded. Pala vows to die rather than be captured.
Santa Fe Passenger No. 17 was ditched by unknown wreckers near Emporia Kansas at 2 30 this morning. Six passengers were injured two critically. Names and injuries include James Euger J O Rice Nate Hendricks J L Cooper Earl A Taylor and F A Grover. The wreck was caused by removing spikes and fish plates on the inside rail and marks point to two men seen near the Howard branch section house.
Severe floods and washouts hit Nebraska after heavy rains. Grand Island Hastings and Harvard report over four inches in 24 hours while Norfolk faces its highest Elk Horn river level in 15 years. Rail lines washed out between Scribner and Oakdale and between Norfolk and Columbus, with bridges damaged and one mile of track lost.
A storm across Sulphur Ada and Chickasaw nation destroyed multiple houses. The body of John Layton was recovered from the Harper hotel ruins in Sulphur. Near Ada, George Bolen was killed by the storm.
Ex Postmaster General Robert J. Wynne, now consul general at London, returned to Washington to testify in postal fraud cases. The May 14 report notes his appearance as part of ongoing investigations and hearings.
Kansas City police say their probe of Herbert V. Croker's visit to a city opium den is closed unless next of kin request action. Hotel porter Charles Wilson who accompanied Croker to the den and helped place him on a Santa Fe train near Newton Kan was released. Opium den owners Ah Lo and Ghee Kee are held for illegal business and to be prosecuted in police court.
Washington reports the Porto Rico agricultural strike involving 14 000 workers has ended. A cable from Santiago Iglesias says 8 000 workers won a 30 percent wage increase and a nine hour workday after four weeks of action.
Newburg New York May 14 89 year old Henrietta Robinson known as the veiled murderess died today at Mateawan state hospital. She was convicted of the 1853 Troy murders of Timothy Lanagan and Catherine Lubey and once wore a heavy veil during her trial. Her death ends a long confinement after a prior death sentence was commuted.
A saloon fight between Swedes and Norwegians in Aberdeen Washington ends with John Thorsen killed by a blow to the head. One Norwegian admits striking a Swede but testimony suggests the killer may have been of another complexion or an unknown assailant.
In Memphis on May 14 night watchman Thomas McCall shot and killed Edith Ferguson and Hal Williamson before turning the pistol on himself. Authorities say jealousy over Williamson's attention to Ferguson drove the killings.
Admiral and Mrs. Dewey arrived in Washington from New York and went to their city home. The admiral, suffering a sore throat and chest cold, sought medical attention and went to bed for the night. Authorities consider the illness temporary.
Little Rock Arkansas May 14 Gen Thomas J Churchill former governor of Arkansas died in the city after a lingering illness.
Eva Dakin a concert hall singer shot and killed one of two men who attacked her and tried to rob her in Chicago. The slain man was identified as Charles Bennett by detectives. She is detained at the police station as witnesses corroborate her account.
Kapia a Honolulu native arrived in New York on the Cedric in custody of Sheriff Henry C. Vidd. He will complete a world voyage most of it as a fugitive from justice and the rest as a prisoner. He is charged with larceny of 15000 in Honolulu bonds. An alleged accomplice is still at large. Kapia fled Honolulu after the theft, went to Japan then London where he was charged with obtaining money under false pretenses. Sheriff Vidd sought to bring him back to Honolulu after learning of the London arrest.
Howard Malcolm Tichnor author lecturer and critic died at his home in San Francisco after a brief illness. He was a native of Boston and had come here a few months ago.
