Advertising for a husband saves sister in Indianapolis
Amelia Bailey, a young Indianapolis woman, posts an eye catching ad offering a $5,000 heart to the right husband to fund her tubercular sister Martha’s care. Bill Hennessey, a friend from the Pen and Brush Club, inspires the plan and Amelia’s poster draws dozens of responses, including Eugene Ellsworth, a wealthy club member who agrees to marry and provide the needed money.
