A feverish session on May 12 saw mixed results with bears selling then covering. Missouri Pacific led gains while People's Gas and several steel stocks weakened, and bank loan data suggested a tentative thaw in liquidity though overall sentiment remained cautious.
Chicago markets report corn liquidation as the feature of change with the market turning weak after starting steady. Rain forecasts in the Northwest add to selling pressure while bull support fades and short covering limits losses. July corn falls to 65% while oats and oats futures drop. wheat briefly steady then weak as export demand remains poor. Provisions steady with light trade, cash demand fair to adequate. Hogs firm with moderate receipts. July pork and lard futures higher.
Crop prices show dull wheat notes with winter patents quoted at 3.70 and other grains around 2.20 to 3.90. Livestock reports from Chicago note a strong week for cattle with natives at 4.75 to 8.0 and Texas steers around 4.60 to 4.70, while hog receipts reach 16,000 and market closes firm.
