Long House Session Stretches Over McNary-Haugen Farm Bill Debate

Washington April 30. Debate on the McNary-Haugen farm relief bill extended the house into its longest session of the current congress. Members were recalled after dinner to continue discussion as eight hours were allocated for debate with speakers roughly split for and against. A three hour night session from 8 to 11 p.m. was added. It was not yet decided if the bill would be taken up Wednesday with amendments. The merchant marine committee may push its rights, possibly delaying the farm bill until Thursday.

Montana Leads Nation in Auto Fatality Reduction in 1927

Montana ranks first nationwide in percentage reduction of automobile deaths for 1927, per the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce. Ten states improved highway safety. national fatalities rose 8 percent. Montana fell from 94 deaths in 1926 to 73 in 1927, a 22 percent drop.

Biggest Auto Show Opens Tonight at Washoe Park Pavilion

The Anaconda Kiwanis club unveils the largest auto show and trades display in Anaconda history at Washoe Park Pavilion with a 7:30 p.m. opening. A mammoth parade led by Mayor J. J. May Extend Butte Meaderville Road Pavement to 20 Feet

Silver Bow county moves to widen the Butte to Meaderville paved highway from 18 to 20 feet. State Highway Commissioner James H. Rowe authorized two bid classes for 18 and 20 foot widths with bids opened May 18 in Helena. Estimated 18-foot cost is 32000 dollars. widening would raise costs. Van Ostrum and Shannon of Anaconda report gravel and sand pit secured and materials moved to the site. Laying will start in a few weeks, aiming for completion by July 1 before shifting to the Butte Anaconda highway.
