Holland skating rink destroyed by fierce northwest fire
Fire swept the Holland rink early yesterday afternoon, driven by a strong northwest wind, destroying dressing rooms and enclosing structures. Firefighters saved the Holland auditorium, which now houses Rodman repair works, as embers spread toward nearby properties. Loss to the rink owned by the Byrnes estate is estimated at around one hundred dollars. The rink, a Winter and Summer hub for hockey, curling, races, and tennis, traces to 1807 founder James Byrnes, later known as the rink King. Father Michael McCormack administers the Byrnes estate.
