Five school children and the driver of a Salem school bus perished when a huge pine tree fell on the passing automobile near Leaf Mississippi. Marie Doss, daughter of driver Dave Doss, died with him. Nettie Hattie and another Doss relatives also perished. two pupils suffered broken legs. one girl escaped unharmed.
Police searched for Arthur Batelle 41 after the body of his wife was found in their Grove City home. The woman, mother of eight, died minutes after neighbors heard a hammer blow and discovered her body in a closet.
Representative Theodore E. Burton of Ohio opened Hoover campaign efforts in Cleveland praising Herbert Hoover as a record of achievement. He contrasted Hoover with Senator Frank B. Willis who he accused of trying to undermine Hoover’s name during the fight for Ohio delegates to the Republican national convention.
A strong earthquake struck Mexico City and other Central and Southern cities. The U S embassy residence suffered wall damage in the bedroom of Ambassador Dwight W. Morrow with only minor casualties reported.
Washington March 22 The senate will seek an arrest warrant for Thomas W Cunningham treasurer of the Pennsylvania Republican state committee a witness who refused to answer questions before the Reed slush fund committee in 1926 Senator King Democrat Utah introduced a resolution for Cunningham's arrest and will seek its immediate consideration tomorrow
National Parks Airway Inc buys four Fokker Super Universal planes for mail and passenger service on the Salt Lake to Great Falls route via Butte. Al Frank says operation by June 1 will cut travel to Salt Lake to three and a half hours, with a five second takeoff and 138 mph cruising speed.
James E. Dailey and Harry M. Hallin, former guards at the State Hospital for the Insane at Warm Springs, were acquitted of killing inmate Matthew Kokko. Hallin received a directed verdict, while Dailey’s jury, after a 26 hour deadlock, reached a verdict. Defense and prosecution teams presented closing arguments and jurors faced reports of earlier deadlocks.
The British submarine R-4 was damaged when it surfaced near Portland England about 12 miles off the base colliding with the destroyer Thruster. Periscopes were hit one smashed the other bent and conning tower bridgework damaged. No injuries and no water entered the submarine.
Edward Blake aged 59 died suddenly in his Idaho Falls home after greeting his wife who had returned from a three months stay in Florida. The death occurred on March 22 and officials filed no further details.

C T Bailey a telegraph operator spotted a landslide at Stoney Creek twelve miles south of Pottsville blocking the tracks with 150 tons of earth. He signaled two Pennsylvania railroad passenger trains stopping them a few feet from the slide. The trains carried over 200 passengers and the action likely prevented a serious wreck.

District Governor Frank Hazel baker will give the annual address and Norman Black of Fargo will speak at the noon luncheon. Delegates will tour the state industrial school and attend the Governor's ball that evening.
George McDonald, a check forger and confidence man, was hanged at 4:50 am for the murder of Ade lard Bouchard, a Lachine taxi driver. The looming execution was kept secret with no press access and only a doctor and priest as witnesses, while Doris McDonald reportedly severed relations. Detectives noted McDonald’s ignorance of his wife’s statement to Denver police.
In Harlowton Montana Wesley Massing 24 rancher was shot and killed by his brother in law Fred Moehle in a soft drink parlor. Moehle told officers he did not intend to kill but to frighten Massing. Bar attendant Charles Burrows was the sole witness. investigators noted a winter quarrel between the men.
Butte to officially start golf season next Sunday with formal opening at the municipal course. Fred Holbrook says early morning play will be welcomed as the grounds are reported in fine shape. Country club course remains wet from floods but hopefuls plan first matches, while municipal course was built last year by city parks and Exchange club with many golfers as members.
