Helena March 14 three per cent gas tax on oil as H R 1 cleared house and moved to senate after committee fights over reductions Dunbar had demanded a one per cent cut and was defeated. Debate centered on revenue projections for 1922 and beyond. The Dearborn blue sky law and Heron pipeline measures were favored by the senate in committee of the whole. A budget amendment to empower the governor to trim appropriations with examiners consent was introduced.

Helena March 14 J H Nibbe Billings attorney testified that Alford’s claim before the senate investigating committee was false and that Alford’s denial of remarks quoted in a letter to Governor Dixon was untrue Nibbe said Alford did say it and that Arthur claimed to have five senate votes and nine house votes to trade for votes against the tax commission bill in the tea room discussion through the governor’s call for an extraordinary session.

In Dublin six men convicted of aiding attacks against British officers were hanged at Mountjoy Prison. A crowd of about twenty thousand gathered as dawn prayers filled the streets, with an improvised altar and images. The condemned included Patrick Moran and Thomas Whelan, linked to the Dublin killings. others faced charges for an January ambush.

Jasper Laws, who pleaded guilty to impersonating federal prohibition enforcement officers, was sentenced by the federal court to a year and a day in Leavenworth federal prison. He was arrested at Ogden Utah and the offense occurred in Butte last May.
