Washington March 5 The Democratic Party unite behind President Wilson’s proposal to end filibuster by instituting a limited debate rule for future Senate actions. Thirty-three Democrats signed a pledge to support closure, aiming to push the issue as a key item for the upcoming caucus and special session to handle office appointments.
Mexico City March 5 In a statement H von Eckhardt the German minister to Mexico said if Dr Alfred Zimmermann the German foreign minister had sent orders to Kim to try to draw Mexico and possibly Japan into war with the United States those orders were never received and therefore not acted on He denied being shown the dispatch in which Dr Zimmer k acknowledged sending the note.
New York mass meeting under the American Rights league urged President Wilson to arm American ships in the barred zone.
