A large blaze in Twin Bridges destroys structures as a volunteer bucket brigade of city residents forms to battle the fire. Firefighters coordinate efforts, evacuations proceed, and damage assessments begin. No injuries reported as containment improves by nightfall.
A March 5 fire in Twin Bridges started at Ed Coston's saloon and, believed incendiary, spread to several wooden structures. Firefighters organized a bucket brigade as a strong wind fanned the blaze. Losses totaled 14,300 with 2,950 covered by insurance. Judge Lott's home survived.
Fort Benton March 4 Archdeacon Webber of Boston famed for eloquence will spend late May with Rev H E Robbins and preach three times daily at St Pauls church. He has visited Europe and the holy lands over 15 times and is praised as a born orator with magnetic delivery and rich voice.
Coston recalls hearing prowlers near his home on Friday night and firing at a figure he believed to be an intruder. The shot was returned but no injuries were reported, amid growing concern and warnings that several men were armed.

Prince Henry of Prussia traveled from Chicago to Niagara Falls and into Canada for a brief stay.
