War market mixed as stocks drift with war news
A dull session with a twinned war buoyancy and uncertainty left stocks largely unchanged. Butte & Superior rose to 29 percent amid general chatter of a possible peace push while United States Steel and Utah Copper showed mixed moves as oils, notably Sinclair, gained ground and General Motors edged higher. Laurier-Wolcott notes a somewhat improved tone on favorable war dispatches but warns that broader developments abroad and in Russia keep the market cautious.

Chicago Markets and Weather Shapes Corn Prices
Market reports show lower corn prices due to fine weather and hot wave relief in the southwest. Wheat bulls held, but overall volume was light with weekend trade quiet after small weekly receipts. Meats provisions edged higher on average, while hogs declined and cash yellow corn saw weakness amid export shifts.
