A Che Foo dispatch reports daybreak fighting between allied forces and combined Boxers and Chinese troops blocking the road to Tien Tsin. About 150 Americans fought as second international troops. Chinese defenses collapsed under shelling, arsenals were attacked, guns silenced, and the battle ended near noon with American and British troops in a neck and neck entry into the city.
In Havana on June 27 rumors said about half the American troops leaving Cuba in coming months. The 2d Regiment was believed ready to depart within days for China as transport becomes available. Governor General Wood denies knowledge of the reports though an officer reportedly received a private telegram.
Berlin reports the German consul confirms a message from Vice Admiral Seymour stating the fleet was eight miles west of Tien Tsin, harassed and unable to hold out more than a day or two with 63 dead and over 200 wounded. He requested a relief column of 2,000 men. The column departed Tien Tsin on June 25 under Russian command.
The association of Iron Steel and Tin Worker representatives adjourned this afternoon without a wage agreement, delaying plans for a New York meeting with American Tin Plate company officials. The wage scale will be discussed at a later conference in the city.
Seattle reports a booming Klondike gold flow as June deposits total over 1 million in value and July receipts are forecast above 3 million. 13 500 ounces were deposited today by 55 individuals, drawn from Dawson City and shipped via the Rosalie with value about 216 000 dollars. 2 500 000 more in gold is said to be en route from Dawson to Seattle, expected on steamers from St Michael next month.

New Whatcom June 27 The find of gold at Bandy Point extending into the Gulf of Georgia from the Lummi Indian Reservation causes excitement. People arrive by boat and a five mile beach is staked between high and low water marks. The sand reportedly yields about 40 cents per pan. Sandy Point marks the old mouth of the Nooksack river, sourced in the Mount Baker mining district.
General Chafee, ordered to lead American forces in China, departed Washington at 10 40 PM with aide Lieutenant Harper. He is due in San Francisco Sunday morning at 5 00 and will sail on the transport Grant with the 6th Cavalry to Nagasaki.
At the Palmer House Chicago the national committee elected Oliver H. Stewart as national chairman. Samuel Dickie of Michigan became vice chairman, William Y. Wardwell of New York secretary, and B. H. Hastings of Wisconsin treasurer. The executive committee expanded to five members and approved a school house campaign to promote prohibition nationwide.
The Lenox now under repair in Portland is expected to sail for Manila via Nagasaki early next week carrying horses for the 6th cavalry. The horses may be landed in China if needed for use by the unit there.
The British consul at Amoy telegraphs a report that continues on page two, dated London and received in the late afternoon.
Indianapolis June 27 Governor Taylor and his wife arrived from the East today. He has shaved his moustache and his appearance is much changed, signaling a notable transformation during the journey.

Detroit June 27 Daniel C Campau chairman of Michigan Democratic Central Committee and member of the national committee receives letters from several states urging him to run for vice president before the Kansas City convention. His private secretary says Campau's name will be presented at the convention as a vice presidential candidate.
Grand Rapids June 27 The Michigan Republican governor race sees six candidates in ballot. Dexter M. Ferry leads with 294 votes of 421 needed as 5:30 p.m. balloting proceeds and adjournment to tomorrow ordered.
New York June 27 steamship Ft Paul departed for Southampton carrying 300 passengers in first cabin. Among the travelers are Senator M. Depew Lieutenant Governor Woodruff Charles Emory Smith the postmaster general's wife and the Misses Wilson daughters of the Secretary of Agriculture.
The Arkansas Democratic State Convention adjourned at 6 p.m. with the delegation unanimously instructed to vote for William Jennings Bryan for president. Charles J. Parker of Ouachita County withdrew his resolution to nominate David B. Hill for vice president amid claims Hill supports the gold standard.
Passengers aboard the Bremen from Bremen and Southampton include Mrs Crane and daughter who accompanied the remains of Stephen Crane dead abroad on June 5.
In Bangor on June 27 the Republican State Convention was called to order by Joseph P. Manley. Senator William P. Frye was chosen chairman and Dr. John F. Hill of Augusta was unanimously nominated for governor. Resolutions endorsing the national administration were adopted.
The funeral for Martin J. Russell editor and part owner of the Chicago Chronicle was held at St. Thomas Church. Pallbearers were Chicago Chronicle staff members. He died at Mackinaw Island on a Sunday.
The state appeals Mason before the Montana Supreme Court with General Nolan for the state and J X Kirk of Butte for the defendant. The argument occurred in Helena on June 27 as a special dispatch to the Standard.
In Butte Mason faces a robbery sentence of years while Lacey, tried with him, was acquitted. Attorney Kirk sought a writ of certiorari to review Silver Bow district court action in a case over the Hesperus lode involving Casey and others against Sarah St Peters. The lower court struck the defendant’s answer for contempt of court and the court did not rule on the writ today.
The funeral of Captain George R. Tilly of the US Signal Corps formerly of Helena was held at Jamaica Long Island his home today. He was killed by natives in the Philippines while repairing a cable in May last year. The Western Union and others sent a grand floral offering by Brooklyn florist Wetr a standing wreath five feet high and three feet in diameter.
The United States Monetary league will meet in the Kansas City auditorium July 2 and 3 with three sessions daily. Speakers include Senator W. V. Allen, Dr. J. R. Reemelin, J. R. Sovereign, General J. B. Weaver, John P. Altgeld, Samuel Gompers, Norman E. Mack, and William Sulzer. The gathering is a policy discussion, not a convention, and will not nominate a ticket. Judge Charles I. Thompson and J. Woods Morrill are preparing the program.
Vancouver reports that the Alpha's dispute with U S customs is resolved. The vessel will leave Monday for Beattie for annual inspection under American rules for ships trading to U S ports. After inspection and overhaul the Alpha returns to Vancouver to load cargo for St Michaels.

It details Major Wilkinson reaching Bekwal June 1 and Sir Frederick Hodgson’s note to hold out to June 2. Wilkinson moves toward Rekwai after dawn June 22 with 560 natives under Lt Burroughs amid flooded rivers.
At Harvard commencement on June 27 the honorary LL D was awarded to Sir Julian Pauncefote British ambassador William Henry Walsh Johns Hopkins pathology professor and Benjamin Ide Wheeler president of the University of California several distinguished figures receiving the honor during the exercises in Cambridge Massachusetts.
