Trustees of school district No 1 ask the county board for 1 115 000 to run the schools cover interest and sinking fund and free textbooks for the 1928 29 year. Girl Saves Cousin From Drowning At Warm Springs Creek
Betty Smollack eight-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael Smollack of 500 Alder street ran over half a mile to help rescue her seven year old cousin Victor Lanning from a strong current in Warm Springs creek yesterday afternoon. Victor was unconscious when pulled from the water and taken to St Ann's hospital where he later showed signs of improvement and thanked his cousin. Police Chief Cullen City Clerk Lepke and Fireman Robinson arrived and assisted in care en route to the hospital. Moyle and Wise aided in the rescue and first aid.

Leader Tim Murphy Shot Down in Rogers Park
Chicago labor leader "Big Tim" Murphy was shot to death at his 2543 Morse Avenue home in Rogers Park by assailants using machine guns. An accompanying vehicle lit the scene as Murphy answered a knock and was struck. his brother-in-law carried the body inside. Mrs Murphy was away. Murphy had been released from Leavenworth about a year earlier and had said he was through in labor leadership.
