Political Controversy Over U S Senate Vacancy

In Carson on June 29 Governor Oddip a Wingfield, both Republicans, were tied to a disputed plan to fill the late Senator Nixon’s vacancy. Lieut. Gov. Hoss, a Democrat, refused to yield to political pressure and Acting Governor Ross also declined. The Democratic legislature later elected Nixon in a direct primary, edging toward a Democrat in Washington.
