Two Thousand Men in Search of Wives in Belgium
Two thousand bachelors from Belgium and abroad converged on Ecaussines-Lalaing for the fourth annual marriage mart. With only 97 eligible local women, the event drew diverse tradesmen and even a 72 year old from Luxemburg promising a dowry. The day featured banners, nuptial music, speeches on the art of pleasing, bonbons, and open-air dancing.
