Cheap round trip rates offered by western rail lines
Butte reports an agreement among Northern Pacific Great Northern and Union Pacific to provide extremely low home seekers excursion rates to Pacific coast points and intermediate territory from the East. From July 1 to Oct 21 these rates will be one fare plus two dollars, applied twice monthly across the three systems to all coast and south of Portland. The plan extends to Shasta route and Ashland, with Wenatchee and Ellensburg mentioned as western endpoints. The move is praised as aiding travelers who cannot go west earlier and reflects strong demand for low rates.

Handwriting expert testifies will forgery in Colbert case
A Los Angeles handwriting expert, A. W. Seaver, testified that the signature on the will bequeathing $50,000 to two heirs is a forgery. He compared the will signature with genuine Colbert signatures, noting numerous letter differences and a stronger, longer writing in the disputed signature. The court adjourned after his testimony amid procedural objections and a burial in counsel.
