Charles Moyer president of the Western Federation of Miners fled Miners Union hall after Joseph Bruneau was shot in the head as he walked up the steps. The shot triggered a mob that threatened Moyer and his associates while shots were fired from outside. Police and union leaders fled the scene as the crowd urged the capture of Moyer, with several men taking cover and the fire escape saving fifteen lives.
