Hedges and wife confronted Whiteway after bringing Whiteway to a room. Shots wounded Whiteway in the back and leg as he fled toward a balcony. He is recovering. Hedges and wife are held for examination.

Frank Clinton, superintendent of the New York Electric Highland street railway department, received a telegram last evening from his mother announcing the serious illness of his sister Kate. He hurriedly settled up business and will leave for Duluth this morning.

Mrs. Joanstone of Butte spent yesterday with relatives in town. Her son Hal F. Jonnstone, a Midshipman at Annapolis, is home awaiting orders from the Navy Department for duty. Clark Jonnstone accompanied her.
Frank J Flanagan an experienced electrician in the city died after contact with a live wire while repairing a downed line near Third and Alder. He stood on a wooden stave with a large pole, touched a live wire, then another charged line struck him across the neck. He died after three hours of efforts by doctors and bystanders. Inquest set for 7:30 pm at the coroner's office. He lived unmarried with family in North Dakota and Spokane.
A fierce snowstorm covered Deer Lodge with five to six inches of wet snow and ongoing flakes. Falling branches snapped trees and shrubs, bringing down telegraphs and power lines, blocking sidewalks, and causing widespread property damage. Trees and shade structures suffered extensive breakage as crews assess the scene.
The city meets to-night for musical and social events including piano displays at Stage's and Verberckmves optician. The Standard ball runs biweekly on the second and fourth Fridays. Manager Millner of the family theater disappeared last evening after the vaudeville troupe failed to arrive on time. The delayed company, blamed on a late train, drew a mixed reception from a large audience as police aided order after youths disrupted the scene.

A violent storm swept Indian Territory early today causing nearly half a million dollars in damage. Lightning struck oil storage tanks including a 25,000 barrel tank at Victor Oil and Gas in Glenn Fool Tulsa and many others, with Standard Oil tanks nearly destroyed.
Mrs Edward Bohannikow hosted a large afternoon gathering in Deer Lodge to honor the newlywed Rollinumber couple. The Seattle wedding pair, after a Montana visit, plan to reside on the coast. Ralph Humberto son of Robert Humber, longtime Deer Lodge resident, was noted in attendance.
A Western Union official said one third of operators were at work and the company would not bargain with telegraphers union, while executives in New York noted the San Francisco strike discussion and expressed confidence in national leaders. The stance emphasized no promises of rehiring and a belief the dispute will end as basic principles are addressed.

Forest service representatives from Washington will join about 37 supervisors to review progress and plans in the region with officials including Assistant Foresters Adams and Cook and grazing inspector A E B Palmer among those attending.

Wilkes-Barre area report: Joan Garlow of Sugarloaf Township returned home with a rattlesnake and a copperhead killed on his leg near Noeth Mountain. He woke as the rattler crawled across his leg and tied off, while a copperhead attacked the rattler. Garlow killed both with a stick as they fought. The copperhead measured about four feet long.
In Albuquerque on November 2 a man identified as Pettine surrendered after the fatal shooting of a resident named Borars diel last February. Pettine, who has been hiding in the mountains, was released on $10,000 bail. Investigators say the case may tie to a series of similar Italian linked crimes in Italy and New York.
