Three More Witnesses in Coretti Goretti Case
Virginia City June 20 Tomor row morning the trial of Jos Goretti for the murder of Paul Pesanti began its testimony largely repeating accounts given by Goretti. The case hinges on movements of Pesanti family members and Goretti’s statements, with a body found in an abandoned well on the Pesanti ranch identified as the missing man. Three more witnesses will be examined before the state rests, including Mrs Josephine Lazzary and Romeo Lott who worked the ranch in 1924. Goretti, about 37, came to the United States from Italy in 1913 and was a railroad laborer, miner, and farm hand. He leased the Pesanti ranch at the time of Pesanti’s disappearance on January 12, 1922, with Pesanti reported to have left with a woman and two men after an all night outing.
