Colored man slashed after jealousy dispute near Wyo ming
James Newell, a Black man, was slashed in the face and head at a Silver Street home. Ethel Jackson, a White woman, and others were detained. Jackson claims Newell attacked the woman upstairs. Newell says Billy Cooper struck him first and Jackson cut him. Medical staff faced multiple deep cuts as Newell lay in critical condition.

Buckley Dies in Butte at 42 After Short Illness
Daniel Buckley of 30 West Copper street died at 1 o'clock this morning in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 42, leaving a wife and two children. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Buckley had lived in Butte 14 years. He remained at Walsh's undertaking rooms prior to funeral notice.
