Trial of Barker for Keller shooting ends day as defense cites temporary insanity
In New York on June 19, Thomas G. Barker's trial for the attempted killing of Rev. John Keller nears verdict. Barker testifies that months of distress over his wife’s account drove him to act in a momentary, morbid mania, while his wife describes Keller’s visits and a 1899 incident. The defense seeks to cast doubt on Barker’s intent, but questions and objections cloud the proceedings as cross examination continues.
