Ireland's New Constitution Declared Lawful Under Treaty
The draft Irish constitution announces that the Anglo Irish treaty has force of law and that any clause repugnant to the treaty is void. It ties Ireland to the British crown, empowers parliament on money bills, and extends suffrage and a referendum while giving the people power to initiate legislation. Arthur Griffith lauds the move as enabling Ireland to control its resources and life. Michael Collins receives a warm welcome in Cork as he travels to his constituency.
