J M Conway of Billings shipped a trainload of saddlers from Twin Bridges to Billings for inspection by Contractor Walsh for service in the British army in South Africa. The horses, bought in Beaverhead and Madison counties at 25 to 35 dollars each, are described as tough and wiry. Anderson Bros. will ship a load from Billings yards to St Joe Missouri, mostly range horses weighing 900 pounds plus from Largey and Farrell bands.
Buddy King colored of Denver defeated Spider Kelly of San Francisco by decision at the end of six rounds. Kelly threw in the sponge claiming a fractured rib from the fourth round, the bout originally scheduled for ten. Preliminaries saw Ray Streator Colorado Springs losing to Dave Barry Chicago in six rounds and Jim Humphreys beating Bob Watkins in three rounds.
Three men named Charles Gordon H. C. Croeby and H. EB Barton were arrested in San Francisco on June 14 for allegedly trying to defraud broker P. R. Lewis by selling oil stocks claimed to be worthless. The suspects say they have ties to Denver and St. Louis brokers.
In Eldorado Kansas on June 14 the second trial of Jessie Morrison for the murder of Mrs. Olin Castle made better progress selecting jurors. Adjournment suggested testimony would begin the next day.
