Mining Engineers Win Copyright Suit In Butte
A federal court awarded mining engineers Harpey McDonald & Co. $8500 in damages and granted a permanent injunction against Peter D Peterson and Jesse Cohan for infringing a copyrighted mining map. The ruling noted proof of infringement but no clear actual damages or profits, with statutory damages set at up to $2000 per infringing copy, and a consideration of legal costs and attorney fees. The decision accompanies other federal matters from the San Francisco appeals court and state bankruptcy actions, with hearings scheduled for July.
