Judge Advises Switch For Burglary Delinquents In Juvenile Court
In Butte, Judge Lynch urged parents to use corporal punishment on 13 boys aged 10 to 14 charged with burglary. Nine confessed to entering a jewelry store and a room in the Columbia block, with 29 guns missing. Six guns were later returned as the chief probation officer adjusted losses. Several youths admitted prior misdeeds, and all pleaded guilty. The court sentenced two youths to industrial school for 90 days but suspended, warning that a second offense would trigger immediate confinement.

Juror Claims Misleading Burt Trial Facts
A juror testifies that Burt faced eight months confinement while a six month term plus a $500 fine with daily $2 deductions would require him to serve the six months and pay the fine. The juror says he was misled into thinking Burt was jailed in county custody and would endure a summer trial delay if contested. If aware of the truth, he would have supported only a nominal fine.
