London and Shanghai reports describe widespread unrest around Pekin with mobs attacking railways and the palace in Nan Sing while foreign troops including Americans and Russians prepare to protect legations. Dispatches note deaths of engineers and missionary casualties as Empress Dowager faces limited action.
Pekin report says the empress dowager and emperor returned to Pekin under Tung Fuh Seang escort. American missionary buildings at Tung Chau were looted and burned by Chinese troops. Within three days 75 native Christians trained by Americans were massacred near Tung Chau, many burned alive. Reinforcements for guards are arriving.
Dubious calm surrounds Pekin as international ships mass at Taku and troops from Britain, Japan, Russia, and France repair lines north of Yang Tsu. A rising mob encircles Legation Street while civilians, including 40 Americans and 25 Austrians, brace for further violence amid calls for a new emperor.

An informant from a robber gang connected to Frank Allgood aided officers. The district court had refused the application but the high court overruled that decision.
Dr Paul Gibier head of a sanitarium and Pasteur Institute of New York died from injuries after a runaway carriage struck a tree. His mother in law Mrs Horen, 72, was badly hurt and remained unconscious. The horse returned home and alerted others.
London dispatch reports Boer forces tearing up 24 miles of Lord Roberts rail near America siding and Roodville, threatening supply lines. General Buller moves toward the Transvaal as Rundle and Brabant’s divisions hold Ficksburg, with 4,000 Boers around Bethlehem and 600 surrendering to Rundle.
Sir Redvers Buller reports Headquarters in Natal on June 10 that allied forces halted to move trains through a steep pass and faced an enemy stronghold with about 2000 troops. He notes the position was carefully prepared and casualties included one officer wounded two men killed and 13 wounded with the enemy retreated about 26 miles to the northwest.
General Sir Por estier-Walker wires from Cape Town reporting information received early yesterday of an enemy advance in three columns near Moung Spruit. The railway between Amoecia and Roodeval is destroyed and positions at Koomatipoort and Lourenco Marques are listed with June date markings.

In Cincinnati in June the 23 mile motor paced bicycle race between W A Ruts of New Haven and A B K Stone of Denver ended in a dead heat with a time of 49 47. Owing to an accident to Stones pacing machine in the evening of the 12th they resumed at the same pace and swapped positions each lap. At the quarter pole of the last lap the machine drew ahead but the riders crossed together.
A Daily Express dispatch from Prapskek reports the British relief column is halfway to Kumassie. The road is partly waterlogged and many carriers have deserted, forcing a halt until reinforcements and stores arrive from Sierra Leone.
