Postmaster Had No Authority To Cancel Letters
Washington reports detail Charles A Levine's tangle with postal officials over air mail letters from his transatlantic flight with Clarence Chamberlin. Postmaster Sealy of Impstead Long Island allegedly cancelled 250 air mail stamps and delivered letters to unauthorized recipients, valued by dealers as high as 1,000 dollars each. The episode ties into Levine's broader battle with Postmaster General New over air mail contracts and North American Airways.
