The Anaconda city council, by seven to four, favored repealing the state dry law, but Mayor Smith vetoed the action. Debate covered constitutional limits, billboard disputes, and a referral to the judiciary committee. The meeting also addressed street repairs, park funds, and preparations for civic events and dedications.
The council passed a motion to repaint yellow fire alarm boxes and hydrants after complaints that the yellow color offended Irish residents. Mrs A Powadrill was elected president with Mrs William Sigler as vice president and J Craven secretary in the Anaconda branch of the W C T U at an organization meeting at the Christian church Monday morning. Mrs C Dawes, state president, spoke to a large audience and helped organize the local unit. The Missionary Society plans a meeting at Mrs W W Harper's home this afternoon at 2:30.
The funeral of Dennis Shovlin an Anaconda public official was held yesterday at the family home with many old-time friends in attendance. A solemn requiem mass was led by Father with other clergy assisting. The Veteran Firemen and Painters' union attended as honored groups. Chief George Lapp of the Butte fire department and P. J. Maloney led the cortege. Pallbearers included Arthur Forier Frank Muller Judge George B Whiston and Arthur Heklund. Interment followed in Hill cemetery. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY HP McFayland of 311 West Fourth street celebrated his 7th birthday June 2 with a party at his home. Those present were Mr and Mrs Thomas McParin and Mrs L H Kimball Arthur Fisher and son Samuel.
Jim Mith was arraigned in Justice court on drunkenness and disorderly conduct and sentenced to ten days in the county jail. Peter Cain faces an assault charge to be heard Wednesday afternoon, June 9. James King and Miss Jean Bowen married in Drummond with Rev Father Day officiating.
